What materials are used for the coffee pods and their pouch?Updated 19 days ago

Our compostable K-Cups, including the lid, are made from a combination of paper and compostable materials, including renewable bio resins, coffee chaff, and other compostable components. Each component is BPI-certified compostable, and the entire pod is CMA-certified compostable across all three composting technologies:

CMA-I (Industrial)

CMA-W (Windrow)

CMA-A (Aerated Static Pile)

Additional features:

Paper filter for optimum flow and ideal extraction

Nitrogen is flushed to preserve freshness

No degassing after grinding for better quality

Pouch: Our pods come in pouches made from cellulose-based material. Being certified ensures there are no toxins or microplastics. Each pod (and the packaging!) is fully BPI- and CMA-certified compostable across all major systems.

Bleach on filters: According to our manufacturer, "In our process, we do not do any whitening of the sheet, but the wood pulps used in the web get whitened either through Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) or Total Chlorine Free (TCF) methods by our suppliers. These are industry-standard whitening methods that are used on pulps that can be used in food contact applications."

Seal: Each Love Grown coffee pod is sealed in a plant-based wrapper and nitrogen-flushed to lock in freshness.

Bio resins: They are derived from renewable, natural resources such as plants, cellulose, sugars, and other biological materials, rather than traditional petroleum-based sources, as you would find in a plastic version of this component.
